TOUR OVERVIEW
Scheduled Tour Dates:
March 18th to 22nd, 2026
The Panna Tiger Reserve is one of Central India’s most remarkable success stories. It was once on the brink of losing its tigers, today it stands as a thriving landscape where big cats once again roam free across rugged cliffs, teak forests, and the shimmering Ken river valley.
The reserve derives its name from the ancient kingdom of Panna, a region rich in legend, history, and culture. The landscape here is dramatically different from other tiger reserves: deep gorges, plateaus, cascading waterfalls and the crystal-clear waters of the Ken carve through the forest, creating a spectacular backdrop for wildlife photography.
Tiger sightings in Panna have seen a remarkable resurgence thanks to successful conservation efforts, and the park is now home to a steadily growing population of tigers. Besides tigers, Panna’s diverse habitats support the Indian leopard, sloth bear, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, wild dog (dhole), hyena, chital, sambar, nilgai, and an extraordinary abundance of birdlife.
The reserve is also one of the best places in India to photograph Indian vultures, including the long-billed, red-headed and Egyptian vulture. The Ken river attracts species like the woolly-necked stork, bar-headed geese, pied kingfishers, and the elegant Indian skimmer, making Panna a paradise for bird enthusiasts.
We will be exploring this fascinating landscape over 3 full days inside the park. With full-day access, we enter 15 minutes earlier and exit 15 minutes later than regular safari visitors, giving us more quiet, productive time in prime habitat. It also allows us the freedom to move across the safari zones of Panna, maximising our chances of tracking and photographing tigers, leopards and other wildlife in the best possible light.
What’s better, The Outback Experience’s Phillip Ross will guide you through these forests, introduce you to the fundamentals of wildlife photography and provide key insights into tiger and predator behaviour, helping you anticipate moments and make striking images. Phillip has been travelling to Panna for the last few years and knows its ravines, riverbeds and plateaus intimately, taking you to locations known for regular movement of tigers and other wildlife.
Come join us for this unforgettable wildlife photography tour in one of India’s most dramatic tiger landscapes!
