BROWN BEAR
WONDERLAND
KAMCHATKA WILDLIFE EXPEDITION

TOUR OVERVIEW

DATES: 9th to 16th August 2026

From active volcanoes and glaciers to winding rivers and vibrant meadows, Kamchatka’s landscape is an untouched paradise that showcases the raw power of nature. Visiting Kamchatka offers more than just incredible beauty, it provides the rare opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring Kamchatka brown bears in one of the most pristine environments on the planet.

Coming August 2026, embark on an unforgettable journey to photograph these legendary bears in their natural habitat. This tour is not just a trip, it’s an expedition, taking you to a remote location where you’ll spend three nights, dropped off by helicopter. A highlight of this experience is the unique chance to lie on the ground, capturing extraordinary photos of the bears leaping to catch fish while being surrounded by them. Don’t worry, armed guards will be with you, allowing you to focus on your photography while they ensure your safety.

The Kamchatka Peninsula, in northeastern Russia, is a land where nature’s immense forces are ever-present. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it covers 472,300 square kilometers of stunning, rugged terrain. The peninsula is bordered by the Okhotsk Sea, Bering Sea, and the Pacific Ocean and is home to 28 active volcanoes, making it a true geological wonder. Kamchatka is also a haven for wildlife, with nearly three dozen species of wild animals calling this untouched land home.

One of the standout features of this tour is the Grassy Point Lodge, one of only two places to stay near Kurile Lake. Kurile Lake, formed by a massive volcanic eruption over 8,000 years ago, is the second-largest freshwater lake in Kamchatka. The name comes from the indigenous Kuril people who once lived on the nearby Kuril Islands. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Ilyinsky volcano and surrounded by lush forests, Kurile Lake offers a peaceful retreat into nature. The Grassy Point Lodge is a charming two-story wooden building, with comfortable bedrooms on the upper floor and a cozy communal dining area and showers on the ground floor. Its prime location at the edge of a small peninsula offers breathtaking views of the lake, and you’ll even have the chance to see bears fishing right from the property.

So what are you waiting for? Join us on the once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

TOUR ITINERARY

DATES: 9th to 16th August 2026

Day 1: 9th Aug | Arrival in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
Your journey begins in Petropavlovsk, the heart of Kamchatka’s administration, culture, and science. After checking in, we’ll take the day to acclimatize to our surroundings and gather any essential gear, such as gum boots and headlamps, for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: 10th Aug | Helicopter Flight to Kurile Lake with Visits to 2 Volcanoes
We kick off day two with a breathtaking helicopter ride to Kurile Lake, where we’ll observe the magnificent Kamchatka brown bears in their natural habitat. On our way, we’ll make stops to explore the Ksudach Volcano, known for its massive eruption in 1907, and the active Mutnovsky Volcano. After visiting the volcanoes, we’ll continue our journey by helicopter to Grassy Point Lodge. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a leisurely evening walk along the sandy shores of the lake, where we’ll have our first encounter with the bears fishing nearby.

Day 3: 11th Aug | A Day All About Bears!
This day is devoted to spending time with the awe-inspiring Kamchatka brown bears. We’ll take morning and evening excursions to the river mouths where the bears gather to fish, preparing for their upcoming hibernation. This is a perfect opportunity to capture their fascinating behavior. For safety, we’ll be accompanied by armed local wardens, and during this time, the bears are more focused on their fishing than on us.

Day 4: 12th Aug | Exploring Kurile Lake and More Bears!
We continue exploring the Kurile Lake area with longer walks to truly experience the stunning landscape. Whether walking along the beach or through berry-filled meadows, we’ll have numerous chances to photograph the bears in various settings, often framed by the breathtaking Ilyinsky volcano.

Day 5: 13th Aug | Departing Kurile Lake for Petropavlovsk
After one last morning visit to the bears, we’ll take the helicopter back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Once we arrive, we’ll check into our hotel and spend the remainder of the day reflecting on the incredible experiences and images we’ve captured.

Day 6: 14th Aug | Marine Expedition: Orcas and Seals
Our marine expedition begins with a two-day journey starting from Avacha Bay, one of the world’s largest bays. We’ll explore the bay’s dramatic rocky terrain, including the legendary Tri Brata rock pillars, and focus on the rich marine life in the area, including the chance to see killer whales and other ocean mammals.

Day 7: 15th Aug | Continued Marine Exploration
On the second day of our marine expedition, we’ll board zodiac boats to get up close to rocky outcrops, where we might encounter sea mammals such as spotted seals, sea otters, and even killer whales. We’ll also have excellent opportunities to photograph seabirds like puffins, seagulls, and the magnificent white-tailed eagle.

Day 8: 16th Aug | Departure
On our final day, we’ll enjoy breakfast before checking out of the hotel and heading to the airport. We’ll bid farewell to our fellow travelers and board our flights home, with unforgettable memories of Kamchatka’s extraordinary wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.
